Field relationships

Group related fields under a parent field so supporting values like reasoning, sources, or sub-scores stay attached to the field they explain.

A field relationship links a related field (the child) to a parent field on the same record type. Use it when one field only makes sense alongside another — for example, a Deal Risk Reasoning field that explains the value in Deal Risk, or a Market Fit Sources field that backs up a Market Fit Score.

What a relationship does

  • Groups fields in settings. In Settings → Fields, related fields are nested under their parent instead of appearing as separate top-level rows.
  • Groups fields on records. On account, contact, and opportunity pages, related fields appear with their parent rather than as standalone fields.
  • Lets the parent's AI Auto-Fill write to them. When the parent field has AI Auto-Fill, its configuration can output more than one value (for example a value plus its reasoning). Each extra output is written to the matching related field.

A relationship does not change a field's type, CRM mapping, sync direction, or editability. Each related field keeps its own settings.

Rules

  • One level deep. A related field can't have related fields of its own, and a field that already has related fields can't be made a child of another field.
  • Same record type. The parent and the related field must both be account fields, both contact fields, or both opportunity fields.
  • One parent per field. A field can belong to at most one parent.

Set a parent field

  1. Open Settings → Fields and choose the record type tab.
  2. Click Add Field to create a new field, or click an existing field to edit it.
  3. On the Field Settings tab, search for and pick a field under Parent Field.
  4. Click Create Field or Save Settings.

To make a field standalone again, set Parent Field to No parent (standalone field) and save.

Open the parent field and click Add related field under Parent Field. GTM Engine opens a new field form with the parent already selected. This button isn't shown on fields that are already related fields.

Fields that get a parent automatically

Some fields are linked for you:

  • When you turn on AI Auto-Fill and generate a configuration, GTM Engine creates a <Field> Reasoning field and links it to the field automatically.
  • Propensity scoring links each score's reasoning and research fields to the score field.

You can still view and edit these related fields like any other field.
